Deaf children’s charity announced as firm’s charity of the year

Staff at Signs Express have already started their partnership to support the charity and raised a total of £140 by organising their first ever ‘The Big Cake Bake’ at their offices with plenty of sweet and savoury treats.

The National Deaf Children’s Society is the leading charity dedicated to providing a world without barriers for deaf children and young people. It provides deaf children, young people and their families with impartial information and guidance to ensure they can make informed choices and influence decisions that affect them.

Craig Brown, Managing Director of the Signs Express group says, “In the signage industry, the focus is always on communicating and we are proud to support such a great charity across our company that also shares a prime focus on effective communication. We’re looking forward to lots of fundraising events throughout the year and combining our efforts to raise awareness of this great cause.”

Matthew Coleman, Corporate Partnerships Executive, states “There are more than 45,000 deaf children in the UK who are often vulnerable to isolation, abuse, bullying, poor self-esteem and low levels of achievement. We are grateful to Signs Express for supporting us as 95% of our work to help deaf children is funded by the public and every cake baked, sweepstake entered and quiz organised makes a big difference!”

2016 is a key year as it marks 10 years since the roll out of newborn hearing screening in England, which the charity helped to secure. Most babies born deaf are identified within a few weeks through screening and getting support right from the start has been shown to transform the language and communications skills of deaf babies.
