Pedalling for Charity

This year, the Lap of Anglia is being sponsored by the UK’s largest specialist motor insurance broker, Adrian Flux. It will be undertaken by a group of willing cyclists pedalling over 400 miles over the course of 4 days, taking a route that outlines the territory covered by the EAAA.

Craig will be cycling through 5 Signs Express territories on this route, comprising Norwich, Ipswich, Milton Keynes, Peterborough and Bedford, which just goes to show the enormity of the territory that the EAAA covers. The lap will begin at 8am on Wednesday 12th August in Kings Lynn (the full route is yet to be finalised).

Craig is an enthusiastic cyclist who has taken part in several biking events around Norfolk, including the Tour De Broads in 2014 and the Pedal Norfolk cycling festival in 2015. Averaging 20 to 30 miles every time he rides in his spare time, the 400 mile, 4 day long ride for EAAA will be quite an accomplishment.

“I am slightly apprehensive about taking on the 4 x 100 miles back-to-back,” Craig revealed, “but if it was not a challenge there would be no fun in it. I did not quite appreciate how large an area the EAAA covers on a daily basis. Taking part in this event has already taught me a lot and if it can raise more public awareness of the excellent service that these people provide, and consequently raise funds; then I will be very proud to be involved.”

As a keen motorcyclist, Craig acknowledges how vital the service that the EAAA provides, especially to the more rural parts of the region. Indeed, in 2014, EAAA crews carried out 1,785 missions, each of which cost on average £2,500 – a sum that exemplifies the sheer volume of funds required to keep this resource going.

The EAAA has been in the news recently as Prince William secured his position as a pilot on one of the helicopters. However, even with a royal patron, the service is always in dire need of funds – funds that have saved the lives of countless individuals over the years.
