Peter Tipton, one of the stalwarts of the British and European sign industry, has died.

When he retired from the BSGA he moved with his wife Christine to live in France and shortly afterwards, in August 2005, was recruited to act as Secretary to the European Sign Federation, a position he continued to fulfil right up to the time of his death.

David Catanach, current Director of the BSGA, said the sign industry across Europe owes a great deal to Peter Tipton.  “Peter was the glue that kept the BSGA and ESF running and without his presence, neither organisation would be as strong as it is today.

“It is also a fact that, if it wasn’t for Peter, there would not be a national sign making qualification in the UK.  It is thanks to his grit, determination and hard work that the qualification exists today.”

Hans Joachim Kremser, President of the ESF said that words were inadequate to express the sadness felt about his death.  “We have to thank him for all the years of work he spent for the benefit of the European sign industry.”

David Catanach added that, whilst Peter was the ultimate professional, he was a thoroughly nice man who developed friendships around the world.  “He will be missed by all who knew him.”
