Roland Award seeks Britain’s best Young Sign Maker

Young people are the lifeblood of the sign industry and the Roland Young Sign Maker of the Year Award, which will be presented at the BSGA’s annual awards ceremony in November, is designed to recognise the vital contribution they make to the industry.

The award is open to anyone aged under 25 who is working in the industry and has, in the opinion of their employer or supervisor, made an outstanding contribution to the business over the course of the past year.

“For the third consecutive year, Roland DG are proving our commitment to the future of the graphics industry with our Young Signmaker of the Year award. The sign industry isn’t just about learning a trade for apprentices – it’s about inspiration, creativity and above all learning skills that will last them a lifetime,” said Rob Goleniowski, Head of Sales UK and Ireland, Roland DG UK.

“I’m sure as with every year it will be a tough competition, with some fantastic entrants. Apprentices are the future of the sign business.  It’s their innovations and enthusiasm that will continue to push the industry forward.”

David Catanach, Director of the BSGA, said that without highly trained and committed young people the future of the sign industry would be bleak.  “Previous winners of the award have, however, demonstrated that young sign makers are making a real contribution to the industry and have provided outstanding examples of skill, initiative and leadership.

“Doing well in this award is a huge boost for young signmakers and a terrific feather in the cap of the businesses that have employed and trained them.”

Entering the award is free – and easy.  Simply visit the awards website at www.britishsignawards.org and complete the online entry form.  Closing date for receipt of entries is Friday, 25th August.

Entries should be submitted by an employer or supervisor and should include a brief resume of why a candidate should be considered for the award, plus examples of work undertaken or projects completed together with details of any formal training undertaken (e.g. Sign Making Apprenticeship or alternative).

Entries will be assessed by a BSGA panel and shortlisted entrants will be visited (by arrangement) at their place of work.
