Sayer Shock for Mike Hall

The decision to award the medal to Mike was made in secret by the BSGA Council, but then they discovered a problem.  Mike was due to be on holiday on the day of the awards and had to be persuaded to delay his departure so he could be in Birmingham to ‘support’ the association. Fortunately he agreed.

BSGA President David Dyke explained that the Sayer medal is not awarded very often and only goes to people who have provided particularly conspicuous service to the association and to the sign industry.

“The BSGA relies heavily on unpaid volunteers who give their time and knowledge freely to the benefit of the whole industry.

“Our technical guidelines, for example don’t just happen.  A lot of work goes into them dealing with new regulations and a lot of time is taken up with regulatory bodies, including the dreaded EU. It’s not much fun, but somebody has to do it.

“So, by unanimous decision of the Council, the Sayer Medal is awarded to Mike Hall, who has been prepared to step up the oche and do this often unsung work over several decades.”
