More than a trophy!

Darren Roughton, MD at Kettering-based Sign of the Times, winners of the prestigious Sign of the Year in 2014, said that the award had helped to increase the work and fortunes of Sign of the Times.

“It’s certainly helped us while tendering for some very prestigious contracts and we are now working on new projects for Barclays Bank in New York, Nationwide Building Society and the National Trust and these are just a few of the new projects we have in line and ongoing for the foreseeable future,” he said.

David Catanach, Director of the BSGA, which organises the Awards, said that they were launched to provide a showcase for the excellent work produced by UK sign makers.

“However, winning an award or achieving a commendation can also have a dramatic impact on a business.  It is an invaluable marketing tool which provides independent and credible validation of a sign business that helps build the trust of customers.”

Success in the Awards can also have an effect on the business itself. “The award was greatly appreciated by all the staff involved,” said Jonathan Burge, MD at Absolute Sign Group, winners of the 2014 Roll Out Programme of the Year.  “It brought a genuine feel-good factor to the whole business.”

This year there are 14 sign making trophies up for grabs, plus a special Product of the Year award and a new ‘Apprentice of the Year’ prize.

“The awards are open to all UK-based sign businesses and it’s easy and free to enter,” said David Catanach.  “They offer a great opportunity for sign makers and anyone who has produced work of which they are proud should go for it.  If you’re not in, you can’t win.”

Closing date for entries for the 2015 awards is Friday, September 4th and the winners will be revealed at a gala presentation ceremony at the East Midlands Conference in Nottingham on Tuesday,  October 13.
