William Smith Rise to the Challenge

A total of 520 signs were produced and delivered within just two weeks of the order being placed.

“The signage was required for traffic and pedestrian management across North Yorkshire for Stage 1 of the race,” explains Peter Horne of North Yorkshire County Council’s Highways Department. “It included directional traffic signage, notification of where spectators were not permitted, No Parking notices, and radio frequencies for traffic information.”

The signs were produced using 3M Engineering Grade and non-reflective material, and included portable frames, with larger signage on Correx and aluminium plates mounted in quick-fit frames.

“We chose William Smith for this job because we knew they had the capacity to manage the very tight turnaround time; and they are also a local company,” continues Mr. Horne. “The service we received was excellent and the production staff were really helpful.”

“William Smith had also previously supplied permanent directional brown tourist signs for Stage 1 of the Tour de France route, which will remain in place as a legacy for cyclists to follow if they wish to ride the route in the future,” he adds.
