May 2005
Annual General meeting

The 28th AGM of the Association was held at the NEC during the course of Sign UK 2005

As reported previously in this Newsletter, the 28th AGM of the Association was held at the NEC during the course of Sign UK 2005. Mr Ian Turner, in welcoming June Robinson as the Association’s first lady President, stated that it had been a pleasure and an honour to serve as the Association’s President for the last 2 years. He expressed his thanks to members of the Association’s Council and standing Committees for the hard work and effort they had expended in their respective activities and for the support they had given him.

He reviewed the year which had seen further significant progress in the Association’s development and further member benefits. He noted that the role played by the Association’s Technical Committee is seen by many members as crucial in terms of membership services. Mr Turner stated that the role carried out by the PR Committee in raising the Association’s profile and promoting it to industry played an important part in the Association’s activities. Many members have yet to realise the cost effectiveness of member benefits which seek to reduce member operating costs at no additional cost to them. He cited the Association’s insurance scheme, the Travelodge Corporate Discount scheme, services offered by the independent energy broker and local plan monitoring. The Association’s role in developing schemes for training and upskilling employees which have NVQ’s as their core factor were also acknowledged.

In closing, Mr Turner assured members that the Council will continue to develop the Association in the future and ensure that the member’s services available will continue to provide an increasing benefit to all members. Members attending the AGM were advised that Mr Nicholas Pearce had tendered his resignation as a member of the Association’s Council. The President paid tribute to Mr Pearce for the dedicated support and assistance he had given to the Association over many years. The President also welcomed Mr Ian Drinkwater of Applelec Sign Components as a new member of Council and expressed the hope that he will enjoy his tenure as a Council member of the BSGA.
