Spandex Unveils New Gerber Solara ion

Spandex used the occasion of Viscom Italia to launch Gerber Solara ion, a versatile flatbed/roll-to-roll wide-format UV inkjet printing solution.

The printer, which uses cationic UV ink technology, has been introduced to meet demanding user requirements across an array of wide-format digital printing applications. Delivering impressive print speeds of up to 60m2/hr and print quality of up to 1440dpi on rigid and flexible, outdoor-durable graphics, the Gerber Solara ion compareswith any wide-format printer available today, including solvent printers.

It has been specifically engineered to serve the broad gamut of signage needs and can be used in conjunction with a virtually limitless range of compatible media, including PVC, wood, plastic and glass, through to flexible substrates such as canvas, textiles, mesh and vinyl. Users also benefit from an expanded colour gamut, which produces intense reds, greens and blues for noticeably more vibrant full colour prints that are outdoor-durable for up to three years, withoutlamination. Built on a robust flatbed platform, the versatile Gerber Solara ion handles rigid material up to 25.4mmthick and 1.6mwide, which is mounted on a vacuum table to ensure ultimate stability and alignment before printing.

For roll-fedmedia, it incorporates an advanced, heavy-duty roll system and winding unit to enable precision feeding and continuous roll-to-roll printing. Furthermore, thanks to a Quick Change Material System, which enables rapid changeover from one material to another, downtime is minimised.

In addition, the Gerber Solara ion boasts Gerber's patent-pending Cold Fire Cure technology; a unique UV curing process that provides revolutionary inkjet curing features by using low energy and low temperatures to cure the proprietary GerberCAT inks. This affords users a number of benefits over competitive curing processes, in terms of material compatibility, cost of operation, and even environmental health, and safety.
