NVQ Conference 2008

This year’s BSGA NVQ Conference took place at the end of June when Walsall College played host to colleagues from around the country. Delegates were welcomed to the Roland Academy by David Wheeler, Acting Principal of the College.

The annual conference, which provides an opportunity for the exchange ideas and experiences, is also a forum for debate and 2008 was no exception. Signmaking qualifications are entering a period of change, with the transfer of awarding rights from SASL to PAA\VQ-SET and the proposed restructuring of NVQ’s under the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF), all of which gave rise to a ‘lively’ exchange of views.

In addition to the usual workshop and discussion sessions there were presentations from guest speakers John Holton, Strategy Development Director at Cogent and Peter Grice, Director of PAA\VQ-SET. John presented an overview of the QCF structure, which is designed to provide flexible routes to gaining full qualifications, while Peter gave delegates an introduction to PAA\VQ-SET.

However, as you can see from the pictures, it wasn’t all hard work. There was a tour of the facilities at the Roland Academy and the opportunity to take part in a vehicle wrapping course.

As always the conference was a great success thanks to everyone involved, particularly Andrew Evans and his colleagues at Walsall College for arranging the venue, and guest speakers John Holton and Peter Grice.
