The Sign Show
This was a new date on the signmakers calendar and as such, was the subject of much discussion and debate within the industry in the months running up to the event which took place at the Ricoh Arena from 2nd to 4th September.
Link Exhibitions billed the show as being dedicated to showcasing todays sign industry, but there were many questions hanging in the air as the doors opened on the first day - was the venue right, what would be on show, who would be there, would it pull in the visitors and, most importantly - would it be a success?
Having the Sign Industry Awards running in parallel with the exhibition was clearly a bonus and a draw for many, not least the nominees and their guests. The Awards, hosted by John Sergeant, star of the BBCs Strictly Come Dancing, drew a record crowd and as always the standard of entries was exceptional.
Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to Ray Stewart and his team at BPS, for organising a fantastic show.
Back to the Sign Show itself, how did it turn out? The exhibition hall and facilities at the Ricoh Arena were excellent although, it has to be said the first day was slow, with visitor numbers down on expectations. However, traffic substantially increased over the next two days. Overall the majority of exhibitors appeared to be happy with the numbers, with many claiming that the quality of leads generated was high.
The range of exhibitors and products on view at the show appeared well balanced, with many commenting that there was a lot of interest for the small signmaker. It was also the view of many visitors and exhibitors alike that the intimate nature of the venue, together with the somewhat laid back approach of the organisers gave the show a relaxed feel. Many felt this provided the opportunity indeed encouraged them to spend more time with visitors.
The general feeling after the three days was that the show went well. Yes there may have been a few hiccups here and there, but thats only to be expected with a new venture; Im sure the wrinkles will be ironed out next time around.
Congratulations to Link Exhibitions on a job well done and good luck for the next one.
