A Logo the Size of a House

The task was to create a way of getting brand exposure onto 25,000 sq. ft of warehousing space. A daunting challenge but one which Signs Express (Stoke) accepted and excelled at.

The UK’s leading trade distributor of surgical dressings, healthcare products, medical equipment and first aid supplies, Reliance Medical, moved their four buildings in Congleton all under one roof in Kidsgrove. The move has represented a significant milestone in Reliance Medical’s history. Chief Executive Andy Pear said: “This was a dramatic expansion of the business and we have been expanding quite rapidly’’.

The investment from the Board has been considerable and Reliance Medical required a signage solution which reflected the significance of this development and symbolised the company’s growth, aspirations and optimism for the future.

Signs Express (Stoke) has been established for almost 20 years and is owned and operated by Craig Tiley who received a national award for achievement in 2016. Craig and his team started collaborating ideas with the client’s specific requests in mind; the sheer size of the building and it needing to stand out, being cost effective for the client as well as avoiding the need to get planning permission. Jonathan Williams, Design & Product Development Manager at Reliance Medical said, ‘’From the outset, the enthusiasm from Craig and his team for the project has helped us stay focused on achieving our bold vision.’’

Signs Express was highly organised in their planning of this vast job. When it was determined that illumination could not be used on the logo due to the requirement of planning permission, Metamark MD5 vinyl with a matte laminate was agreed upon. With the building being 25,000 sq. ft, an intense amount of calculating had to be done by the Signs Express (Stoke) team to find the best use of the graphic. Therefore, the logo, without text, was an astonishing 10m X 8m or 80sqm and was to be erected onto the side of Reliance Medical’s new West Avenue head office.

Before Craig’s team even stepped foot onto the newly developed Kidsgrove warehouse site, hours of planning and preparation were initiated to ensure the work was carried out in the most efficient way. Signs Express (Stoke) spent a day prepping, calculating and printing a total of 58 sqm of actual print for application directly to the building.

The team were then ready to arrive on site and erect the 80sqm logo plus text onto the side of the warehouse. Craig said, ‘’Reliance Medical were a great client to work with due to their committed help in planning and preparation.’’ Craig continued, ‘’When we arrived on site, they had prepped the area, cornered off the specific space we needed, opened up barriers so our access vehicles could gain access easily and even organised the work with the company located next door.’’

After 2 and a half days, the logo and text were fully visible on the side of the building. Signs Express meticulously planned this job so that even the circular logo bending round the building, went on seamlessly. Reliance Medical’s striking blue and green logo along with their slogan ‘’Leading First Aid’’ is tall and proud on their new head office. Due to the fact the unit is ideally located near the M6, the new graphic can be seen by all passers-by; providing a professional and striking look.

Jonathan Williams, Design & Product Development Manager at Reliance Medical said, ‘’The support and guidance offered not only on production and manufacturing techniques but also compliance and planning permission requirements was invaluable in helping us to achieve the level of brand exposure we envisioned; while keeping regulatory complications to a minimum.’’ He continued to say ‘’ It has been such a positive experience working with Craig and the Team from Signs Express (Stoke) over the past few months on all the signage for our new West Avenue head office.’’

Craig, owner of Signs Express Stoke, could not be prouder of the work that was achieved in just over 2 days. He commented, ‘’I am particularly proud of my team. A job this size has many an issue to overcome – lining everything up, making sure the colours are right, creating a graphic that will not be distorted when installed at such a size etc. The main part of this was in the prep work and my team did an exceptional job with only 2 full time staff on the job and 1 back in the unit supporting.’’

Signs Express (Stoke) has always been proud of their reputation for excellent customer relations, customer focus, attention to detail and high-quality workmanship. This large-scale job for Craig and his team reiterates that their reputation prevails.
