British Sign Awards return in November 2018

The British Sign Awards will be back at the Athena Centre in Leicester in November and this year will be hosted by Steve Davis, former world professional snooker champion and now a much-in-demand after dinner speaker and TV personality.

“We are delighted that Steve has agreed to host this year’s awards, which once again will have Signfab UK in partnership with GE as the main sponsor,” said David Catanach, Director of the BSGA.

“Our other confirmed sponsors so far include Epson, Roland DG,  Blackburns Metals, Trade Etching Direct and Wilson Access Services.  Others are pending, but there are still a couple of awards categories available and if any other sign-related business wants to be involved in this unique event we’d be happy to talk to them.”

The aim was to make the 2018 Awards the most memorable to date.  “Having Steve Davis as the host is an excellent start.  He had a remarkable career in snooker, winning no less than 71 major titles and becoming the sport’s first millionaire,” said David Catanach.

“He continued to play at the highest levels right up to his retirement from the game in 2016 and is now a commentator on snooker and a regular quiz show guest as well as being an extremely popular DJ known as Thundermuscle.

“ We think he’s going to be an entertaining host and it’s certainly going to be ‘interesting’.”

The Athena proved almost universally popular with sponsors and guests with virtually all giving the venue excellent ratings for its ambience, food and service.

“We are working with the Athena to improve a couple of areas – namely the location for the reception and car parking and are confident we will have solutions in place for this year’s event,” added David Catanach.

“We will also be starting a little later this year.  We will kick-off the reception at 1.00pm, instead of mid-day, which means we will finish at around 6.30pm allowing guests to avoid the worst of Leicester’s rush-hour traffic.”

Full details of all this year’s awards together with the first call for entries will be published on the awards website (www.britishsignawards.org) in March.  There will be some changes to the award categories based on feedback from entrants.

“We suggest that any company wishing to enter for an award does so as soon as their project is complete and is fresh in their minds, rather than waiting until the last minute,” added David Catanach
