New signs surprise for students from Preston signage experts

Students returning to school after the summer holidays were welcomed by eye-catching new wall coverings on the walls and windows.

The colourful contract for Moor Park High School and Sixth Form College was delivered by Preston-based Signs Express (Central Lancashire) and includes digital wall coverings, stained glass effect window displays and large-scale wallpaper on staircases and corridors.

The designs and artwork were produced by Lancashire company CDM as a part of an ongoing contract for the internal and external requirements for both the school and sixth form in Moor Park Avenue, Preston.

Working with CDM, the team at Signs Express created 13 separate signs, which are now on display throughout the campus.

Matt Rutlidge, of Signs Express, said: “Working in schools is always rewarding and because we worked in the holidays we knew the new wall and window displays would be a big surprise for students.

“We have a lot of experience in the education sector and are equipped to handle the trickiest of briefs.

“At Moor Park School we had to fit a difficult wallpaper installation on staircases, create a stained glass window effect to match the existing décor on new windows and work on some uneven fixing surfaces.

“We have created a signage scheme that will stand the test of time and is very durable.”

The Moor Park School project is just one of a number of schemes Signs Express is delivering in Preston. Others include large-scale construction and regeneration projects being carried out by big-name regional builders including Conlon, Warden Construction and Eric Wright.

Signs Express’ clients also include hospital trusts, schools and colleges across Lancashire, local authorities, universities and manufacturers.

Signs Express and its 15-strong workforce based in Rough Hey Road, designs, produces and installs a full range of signage for its growing client base and is owned and run by father and son team Stephen and Ben Hall.

As well as external and internal signs, the company also creates vehicle and window graphics and has seen a growing demand for its bespoke digital wallpaper. All its work, from design to manufacture, is carried out ‘in house’.

Signs Express’ growing client list has seen annual turnover grow above £800,000. Ben Hall said: “Our design department is using the latest software to create powerful messages. We pride ourselves that we are more than just a sign company.

“We’ve got graphics and fabrication workshops that are also equipped with the latest technology. It means we can produce all aspects of sign work, including illuminated, tactile and braille signs.

“It’s a very competitive market out there, but the advantage we have is being able to take on work of all sizes and to successfully project manage them.”
